About the Writer
This blog documents a family’s journey. While the blog starts from the first day of our international adoption, our family really started in April 2001 when Matt and I were married. Diesel followed 18 months later in October of 2002, and Kinhly joined us in July 2006. Diesel is our biological son who was born after 9 months of baking and nearly 2 days of labor. Kinhly joined our family of 3, after 12 months of laboring over piles of paperwork and 2 governmental bodies. Home as a family of 4 for just over a year, we’ve just welcomed our 5th addition in September of 2007 with the birth of Lola Michael!
Spring of 2008 I took the first steps to become a gestational carrier (surrogate.) I met a wonderful couple that same summer. We transferred their final single embryo on February 11th, 2009. This transfer also has resulted in a pregnancy!! Little Sera was due October 30th, but arrived October 23rd at 39 weeks gestation via emergency c-section due to a cord prolapse. Her parents are over the moon and I helped create a family! It’s the most amazing thing in the world. Next goal – losing this baby-weight!
I recently finished graduate school where I received my Masters of Arts in Teaching. I teach middle and high school math at an alternative school in the PacNW. Now Matt is looking forward to starting school in the summer of 2010 where he will work towards a degree in renewable energy management. We have just started the process that will finish our family with a 6th (and final) member via the miracle of international adoption from Thailand. Our dossier was finished August 28, 2009. In September 2009 we accepted the referral for a beautiful 6 year old boy. We are totally in love with our new son already. We are still hopeful of a summer 2010 travel date but are unsure of timelines at this point.
